Support my Climb Against the Odds!

I sat in Dr. Goodnight's office trying to do a very difficult thing. I was trying not to focus on his cowboy boots, but rather on what he was about to tell me. What he told me was that I had breast cancer and his recommendation was a mastectomy. A week later, when I returned to him to have my drainage tubes removed, I remarked to him how very lucky I felt. He then did something totally unexpected. He quietly started to cry and said he felt I had received a very bad deal. As an RN it was the first and only time I ever saw a surgeon cry, with or without cowboy boots. Seventeen years later I still disagree with my cowboy-booted friend, and consider myself very, very lucky for I remain alive and cancer-free while I have lost others not so blessed with good fortune.

I will now be attempting to do two other things which are very difficult for me. One is to summit Mount Shasta in June with other cancer survivors and supporters. The second difficult thing I am going to do is ask for your help in the form of a donation. The donation is not for my climbing expenses, for I will be paying my own way. The donation rather is for the Breast Cancer Fund which is sponsoring the climb in order to raise funds for breast cancer prevention research.

For a contribution of $100, or more, I will fly a prayer flag on the top of Mt. Shasta in honor or in memory of your loved one.

You can donate at this site or send a check to me made out to Breast Cancer Fund. Put my name in the memo section. My address is: 9400 Montana Lane, Montague, CA 96064.

Thank you for your support in this important cause.
